A Study on Perceptions of Play Therapy Using Social Big Data Analysis

Abstract

|
|
The purpose of this study is to explore public perceptions of play therapy by means of social big data analysis. Criterion used for collecting the data were as follows: (a) blogs, forums and news posts on Naver and Daum, which are the top portal sites in Korea, (b) posts for the 3 years period from 2019 to 2021, and (c) the inclusion of keywords, such as “play therapy”. A total of 105,738 posts were analyzed by keyword frequency analysis, keyword network analysis and LDA topic modeling. The results indicated that the top keywords related to play therapy were “child”, “speech therapy”, “art therapy”, “therapy”, “play”, “counseling”, “psychotherapy”, “psychological counseling”, “sensory integration therapy”, while the associations of keywords showed that the “child”, “art therapy” and “speech therapy” were highly influential. LDA topic modeling suggested 8 topics for play therapy. Topics for play therapy were as follows: “Child psychotherapy”, “Play therapy site”, “Treatment of children with developmental disabilities”, “Play therapy education”, “Counseling recommendation”, “Play therapy program”, “Play therapy process”, and “Counseling Center”. The results of this study will be used as supporting data which may in turn underpin meaningful implications for play therapy practice, in ways which better reflect clients’ needs and establishing more effective treatments.
